MONDO PENANT – A MULTI DIMENSIONAL OBJECT
Mondo consist of four movable metal shades, mounted in pairs, overlapping each other which allow the beholder to interact with the lamp. “Mondo pendant offers the possibility of interaction, in a simple, intuitive and analogue way”, says designer Antonio Facco and continue, “the beholder can intervene and change the aesthetics by moving the metal masks, manage the patterns, and control the light effect.”
“Now when we see the finished product it’s hard to understand that we struggled a lot to find a solution for changing the bulb.” says Antonio. Because of the construction with a horizontal movement there were no obvious way to reach the bulb. But when Antonio presented the idea of making one solid shade to hide a hole behind, it suddenly became clear.
Antonio continues; “Mondo means a lot of things. First of all, it is the Italian translation of ” world” and the first meaning clearly reminds of the structure of the globe, immediately recognizable in the design. Second, for its ambition of universality, originality and comparison with the world we are living in, and finally a tribute to a great Italian master, Vico Magistretti, creator of the Eclipse Lamp.”
RISING TELENT AT THE MAISON & OBJET
Antonio Facco has been chosen by the legendary designer Giulio Cappellini as one of Italy’s rising talents at Maison & Objet in Paris, January 2018. “We are proud to launch Mondo pendant together with Antonio”, says Erik Möller, founder of Oblure. “We are excited to launch Mondo at the fair. Antonio will exhibit with the other Rising Talents and Oblure will as usual exhibit in Hall number 7, Now! Design À Vivre!”
HARD FACTS
Mondo Pendant and Mondo floor lamp are made in steel and opal glass. The pendant has a textile cable with a ceiling cup and the floor lamp has a textile cable with an on/off switch. The fitting is E27 and the lamp will be sold with EU plug. Size: 365 mm (H), 280 mm (Pendant), 1530 mm (H), 500 mm (Ø) (Floor lamp).

Finally, Antonio explains how he came up with the idea for Mondo; “I’m very attracted and influenced by participative art. I am interested in observing people and I am fascinated by the idea of being able to involve them into the creative process, authorizing them to become co-authors, because of the unpredictable nature of points of view. Likewise, programmed art. With Mondo Lamp my ambition was to create an object which would offer the public countless possibilities, thanks to the overlapping layers, with a refined and well-defined design. Mondo aims at being a product that invites to the interaction and gives value to the importance of the relationship between man and object, denying quietly the idea of obsolescence.”
